Internet Advertising + Marketing

Ifrah PLLC represents businesses and individuals in legal disputes involving Internet advertising and marketing, direct and indirect online sales, electronic-payment processing and interactive gaming.

Through extensive experience, we have developed in-depth understanding of the federal statutes that regulate Internet commerce. Collectively, the lawyers on our team have litigated a wide array of these cases, from defending an online retailer against the fraudulent practices of an unscrupulous marketing agency to preventing the government seizure of an e-payment processing company’s bank accounts.

Our team includes a former staff attorney for the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. We have handled a number of high-profile FTC investigations and enforcement actions involving Internet marketing campaigns and related issues such as the scientific substantiation of advertising claims.

We also represent companies targeted by state attorneys general for matters relating to allegedly false or deceptive advertising. In a recent Florida case in which our client received multiple subpoenas from the state attorney general, we were able to resolve the matter with no finding of wrongdoing or payment of penalties by our client.

iGaming

At the intersection of interactive gaming and government regulation, one law firm stands out. Ifrah PLLC represents many of the largest igaming companies and industry associations in the world. Our clients include the online poker sites Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars and the Interactive Gaming Council, a non-profit organization representing the interests of igaming companies around the globe.

  • When the state of Kentucky took the unprecedented step of attempting to seize the domain names of igaming companies in order to try and shut them down, Ifrah represented the IGC and became lead counsel coordinating the defense.
  • When federal authorities in Maryland seized $2.5 million from an e-payment processing company, we represented the company in negotiating a return of a substantial portion of the funds.
  • When a professional poker player sued Full Tilt Poker claiming a $40 million ownership interest, we were successful in moving for dismissal of the player’s three amended complaints.

Three characteristics uniquely qualify Ifrah to represent igaming companies. One is our substantial experience in both criminal defense and civil litigation. This is invaluable because even civil cases can expose igaming companies to criminal prosecution. We are litigators who know the risks and how to avoid them.

Another is our expertise in federal sentencing guidelines. Because sentencing is often tied to dollar values, gaming-related crimes carry risk of disproportionate sentences. Our thorough understanding of the guidelines helps ensure the most favorable outcomes.

Last is our knowledge of the igaming industry and the people who work in it. We are a firm of lawyers who share a passion for understanding our clients and their businesses. Through our representation of igaming businesses over a number of years, we have acquired in-depth understanding of the industry. That understanding is the key to our ability to craft solutions that meet your goals.

Government Contracting

The Ifrah legal team, headed by a former US military officer, has extensive experience in defending government contracting industry players such as Lockheed, Boeing, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman.  Our founding partner Jeff Ifrah served his country as a trial lawyer and officer in the U.S. Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps and as trial counsel to the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth.

The lawyers on our team have extensive experience litigating cases under the False Claims Act and the Anti-Kickback Statute. We handle matters involving cost accounting, internal investigations and compliance reviews, defective pricing, performance disputes and subcontract disputes. We regularly handle matters before the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, various Boards of Contract Appeals and the General Accounting Office.

Healthcare

Ifrah represents major health, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and executives in the defense of federal and state criminal prosecutions and in civil litigation. We have significant experience in defending cases under the federal False Claims Act involving allegations of fraudulent claims or false statements.  In fact, our founding partner has been listed by Nightingale’s Healthcare News as one of 12 outstanding fraud and compliance attorneys in the U.S. and recognized by LexisNexis as an expert in healthcare and securities fraud.

We have represented some of the largest players in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry, including pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. In one such case, we obtained a dismissal of a complaint alleging million dollar claims under the False Claims Act. We have also successfully represented the owner of a pharmaceutical supply company who was indicted for multiple counts of false statements relating to commercial transactions in the secondary wholesale market. We prevailed in convincing the U.S. Attorney handling the case to dismiss the indictment in its entirety.
