Helping a Military Contractor Reduce an Outsized Tax Liability
In Hawaii, the U.S. government contracts with doctors to provide medical services in military hospitals. When one of these doctors found himself the subject of a significant lawsuit filed by Hawaii tax officials, he turned to Jeff Ifrah to defend him.
Hawaii officials claimed the military doctor owed the money under an unusual state law. The law charges sales and use taxes against the value of goods and services provided under contracts with the federal government.
Through a series of negotiations with the Hawaii government, Jeff was able to reach a mutually agreeable outcome, which was a small fraction of the government’s original offer.
