WASHINGTON, D.C., May 21, 2012 – Ifrah Law PLLC, a Washington, D.C.-based law firm focused on complex civil and criminal litigation is pleased to announce today, that seasoned attorney, Michelle Cohen has joined the firm as a member, and will serve as Chair of the E-Commerce group.  Ms. Cohen brings two decades of experience to the firm, where she will focus on e-commerce matters. She has and will continue to specialize in advising clients on a broad range of privacy, consumer protection, e-commerce, communications and media-related issues.

In addition, Michelle will also provide counsel to clients in data privacy, security, direct marketing, broadcast, cable television, the Internet, domestic and international wire line telephony, wireless services, and emerging technologies.

Ms. Cohen has extensive experience representing traditional and online companies before the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general and other federal and state agencies.  Michelle has successfully defended clients in administrative and civil litigation (including class actions) involving telecommunications and privacy issues, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act; drafted terms of use and privacy policies for websites; counseled clients through the legal requirements associated with online and traditional sweepstakes and contests, including formulating contest/sweepstakes rules, and submitting necessary filings and represented clients in FCC licensing, focusing on mergers, acquisitions, ownership transfers, new licenses and FCC/FTC rulemaking matters. Prior to Joining Ifrah Law, Michelle was a partner with Thompson Hine LLP.

Michelle is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the state of New York, as well as before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, other federal courts.

Ms. Cohen is a graduate of Emory University School of Law, J.D., 1992, with distinction, Editor-in-Chief of the Emory Law Journal; Fyr Scholar. She received her B.A., from Brandeis University in 1989, magna cum laude; with Highest Honors in French, with Honors in English

She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional-US through the International Association of Privacy Professionals, a member and past board member of Women in Cable Telecommunications (Washington, D.C.-Baltimore Chapter), a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar, New York State Bar Association and Women’s Bar Association of DC.

Michelle is a seasoned presenter and author, and was a featured speaker at the American Law Institute/ American Bar Association’s seminar on “Cybercrime” (November 2011). She has published numerous articles that include: “Best Offense Is a Good Defense” Inside Supply Management, March 2012; “How Networks, Phones and Cards Shape e-Commerce” · E-Finance & Payments Law & Policy, July 2010; “US Consumers and Changes in Credit Card Practices” · E-Finance & Payments Law & Policy, January 2010.  She was recently named as a Top Technology Lawyer by the American Lawyer (May, 2012).
