Jeff Ifrah Discusses the Wire Act on Panel at SBC Summit North America

At this year’s SBC Summit North America, Jeff Ifrah will speak on a panel regarding the controversial 2018 Wire Act opinion issued by the U.S. DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel. The panel is entitled “Taking on the Wire Act” and will be held on Wednesday, December 1 at 4:40pm (EST) as part of the Regulatory track at the conference.

Ifrah Law has been closely involved with the Wire Act case, as the firm submitted an amicus brief in the First Circuit Court of Appeals, supporting the New Hampshire Lottery Commission and their service provider NeoPollard in challenging the DOJ opinion. The amicus brief was submitted on behalf of the iDevelopment and Economic Association (iDEA), a non-profit organization whose mission is to grow jobs and foster responsible growth of online gaming and sports betting business in the United States.

In June 2021, the deadline passed for the DOJ to seek Supreme Court review on the 2018 Wire Act opinion; an action that Jeff Ifrah called “a victory for states’ rights, for clarity in the reading of federal statutes, and for the gaming industry and its consumers.” At SBC Summit, this panel will discuss what the future may hold, along with the potential for further legislation as a result of the 2018 Wire Act opinion.
