Sondra D. Grigsby
MEMBER
"Every client case has a story. My job is to effectively communicate that story to the audience deciding it."
Overview
Sondra D. Grigsby is a seasoned trial lawyer who brings over 15 years of experience handling complex commercial litigation, investigations, and disputes in federal and state courts, as well as domestic and international arbitrations. Her experience spans matters involving fraud, antitrust, breach of contract, RICO, securities, white-collar criminal defense, bankruptcy, defamation, and regulatory compliance.
Sondra’s practice is distinguished by a hands-on approach to litigation: she has led trial teams, taken the testimony of expert and fact witnesses, argued motions to dismiss and for summary judgment, taken depositions, and guided matters through mediation and negotiation. Whether representing a plaintiff or defendant, Sondra not only understands the law and the facts, but also how to translate them into the most compelling argument for each audience—be it a client, adversary, judge, jury, or arbitrator.
With a belief that thorough preparation is the foundation of effective advocacy, Sondra immerses herself in the facts and applicable law from the outset, using discovery and depositions not simply to gather information, but to develop and refine a strategy for each case. She particularly enjoys the storytelling aspects of trial work, knowing that effective advocacy depends on listening closely, having the ability to read a room, and communicating complex issues with clarity and precision.
Sondra has substantial experience conducting internal investigations, including whistleblower investigations involving sensitive allegations and senior executives. She has managed investigations involving hundreds of thousands of documents under demanding deadlines, developed review strategies and search terms, coordinated legal teams, and synthesized findings to help clients assess risk and determine an appropriate course of action. She brings the same strategic and practical approach to arbitration, handling matters from inception through resolution, including the selection of arbitrators, evaluating contractual arbitration provisions, and representing clients in complex, multi-party proceedings.
She also represents international clients in cross-border disputes and is accustomed to working across time zones and adapting to different cultures and working styles. Clients value Sondra’s responsiveness, judgment, and ability to remain focused on both the details of a matter and the larger objectives driving the engagement.
Sondra is deeply committed to pro bono work. She has represented clients in fair housing and immigration matters and also co-led a mentoring and mock trial program at John Dewey High School’s Academy of Law & Justice in Brooklyn, New York, where students are coached through mock trial competitions, connected to resources that support academic achievement, and introduced to career opportunities in the legal profession.
